GENERAL   SCIENCE

The General Science programme has two (2) distinct departments under it, namely; The Science Department and The Mathematics Department.
Science Department

Welcome to the Science Department of the General Science programme.

Our operational mission and vision statements capture completely what ASASS is all about: the department offers four (4) different elective courses which comprised: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geography while an Integrated Science is currently being offered as a core course. The inclusion of Geography as an elective course became necessary as a prerequisite discipline to ensure deep understanding of engineering courses at the various universities in both Ghana and abroad.

The Department has a thriving environment with an approximate staff strength of thirty (30) full time members with a total student population of 500. Members of Staff at the Department are with varied background and experience; where they offer excellence services in teaching and mentoring in the areas of the science. Through the effort of our able members of the Department with other support from the school, the Department had achieved laurels in all our “West African School Certificate Examinations” coupled with a qualification into the “National Science and Mathematics Quiz” contest to be staged in Accra.

Our recent performance in the National Science and Mathematics Quiz is strongly supported by the Old Students Association of the School as well as other philanthropic individuals and groups. The Department has three (3) Science Resource teaching laboratories, which are of standard and equipped with fitting instrumentation for Physics, Biology and Chemistry. We are currently in the process of renovating and upgrading of all the three laboratories to include a state-of-the-art instrumentation to aid effective teaching and learning of science. The Department has self-motivated, vibrant and highly stimulating teaching environment which is achieved through a blend of high quality students and staff members who are committed to teaching and learning of science.

We welcome students from the various Junior High Schools to opt for Asanteman Senior High to enjoy our continued success in our science programmes. The choice of the subject areas is extensive – characterized with motivation from our able members of staff towards our students. We are well-balanced to the extent that, we have a programme to suit your interest as a “would – be” parent or a guardian of a science student as well as a student with an interest in science. We would like to assure you that, whatever your future drives may be; they would be accomplished at the Asanteman Senior High School.

The Mathematics department is the most vibrant department in the Asanteman Senior High teaching fraternity. The department consist of twenty (20) strong men. There is a cordial relationship between or among the tutors in the department to the extent that teacher can step in for a colleague teacher when the need arises.

Teachers then rely on their colleagues for in-service training on topics to be thought. Punctuality is the tutors’ hallmark.
