Asanteman Senior High School, founded in 1954 by the Asante Youth Association (AYA) as AYA Secondary School. It was a co-educational day school in response to the growing demands for more second cycle institutions in Ashanti region and also to provide Day Secondary education to boys and girls students who could not attend the traditional boarding schools in Kumasi. It was absorbed into the public system by the government and re-christened it Asanteman Secondary School on June 7, 1962.

The school founding headmaster, the late Mr. J. Owusu Ofori had a singleness of purpose and dedication from the scratch not only to build the school with bricks and mortar but also to build the minds and character of the students.

THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION

The day-to-day administration of Asanteman Senior High school rests with the Headmaster who is ably supported by three Assistant Headmasters namely: Administration, Academic, Domestic, Senior Housemaster, Chaplain, School Accountant, Counsellor and Bursar. These able members constitute the school management team.

COURSES

The school offer five (5) specialized courses or programmes which are General Science, General Arts, Business, Home Economics and Visual Arts. The duration for all programmes is three (3) years. The curriculum consist of a general core subjects (i.e. English Language, Integrated science, Mathematics, Social Studies, ICT and P. E.) and elective subjects relative to the programme you are doing.

VISUAL ARTS

Visual art is all about expressing ones feelings, thoughts, creative skills and imagination in a visual form. It also provides the needed skills, attitudes, values, insight and understanding needed to enable students to succeed in their daily lives; emphasizing on development and the use of artistic knowledge.

BUSINESS

GENERAL ARTS

The Department remains the heartbeat of the school. It provides the wings upon which the school takes it flight. The dedication and co-spirit of its membership has been superb. No wonder students’ academic performances have been increasingly magnificent.

HOME ECONOMICS

The Home Economics programme was introduced in this school before the inception of the senior high programme. The rationale for the programme is to equip students with academic knowledge as well as life skills that will make meaningful contribution to their lives.

GENERAL SCIENCE

We welcome students from the various Junior High Schools to opt for Asanteman Senior High to enjoy our continued success in our science programmes. The choice of the subject areas is extensive – characterized with motivation from our abled members of staff towards our students. We are well-balanced to the extent that, we have a programme to suit your interest as a “would – be” parent or a guardian of a science student as well as a student with an interest in science.
